Helicopter Engines Business

- Sales and after-sales support of turbine engines of Safran Helicopter Engines -

In 1961, the Helicopter Engines Division started selling the first helicopter turbine engines in Japan, manufactured by Safran Helicopter engines of France. Today, more than 500 Safran turbine engines are being used by the Ministry of Defense, other government agencies and Japanese commercial industry. Additionally, the Tokyo Maintenance Center provides maintenance, training, and logistics service,and the consistent total services including sales, and after-sales support are offered. The Helicopter Engines Division continues to expand its activities to contribute to the development of the Japanese Aerospace Industry, utilizing the expertise and technical capabilities gained over the years.

Safran Helicopter Engines is the world’s leading manufacturer of rotorcraft turbines and is the only company dedicated exclusively to this market. Operating worldwide, the company has more than 2,500 customers in 155 countries, and 21,000 engines are in service. Since its foundation in 1938, by a Polish engineer, Joseph Szydlowski, the company produced 75,000 units to date. In 2015, the total flight time of engines manufactured to date exceeded 100 million hours.

  • ARRIEL engine

    The Arriel is the best-selling helicopter engines in its class. Over the past 40 years, over 15,000 units have been produced, logging more than 60 million flight hours. With power outputs ranging from 650 to over 1,000 shp, the Arriel family now powers over 40 different helicopter types, including BK117D-3 manufactured by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd.

  • Arrano engine

    Arrano is a new generation engine in the 1,100 to 1,300 shp power range. It powers Airbus H160. Arrano integrates the best in the aero-engine technologies and offers 15% reduction in fuel consumption over other in-service engines.

  • Makila engine

    Intended for 9 to 12 ton heavyweight helicopters, the Makila 2 engine span a power range of between 1,800 and 2,100 shp. It powers all Airbus Helicopters H215 and H225 variants.
    Makila is a combat-proven engine, particularly effective when operating in military transport and rescue missions. It has earned a reputation as a safe and reliable partner for operating in challenging conditions, notably offshore and extreme environment.
